The Last Prisoner Project x CBD Choice: In Case You Missed It

If you didn’t know, CBD Choice is donating 10 percent of all proceeds during the month of September to the Last Prisoner Project, an organization dedicated to creating a fair, just, and inclusive cannabis industry. But what exactly is the Last Prisoner Project, and how are they creating a better cannabis industry?
What is the Last Prisoner Project?
The Last Prisoner Project is a group of cannabis industry professionals, social justice advocates, drug policy experts, and more. They aim to free every last prisoner of the supremely unjust War on Drugs.
Imagine it’s 2015, and you live in California. In this scenario, you have one ounce of marijuana on your person, you get stopped by police, and you’re arrested. In 2015, marijuana had yet to be legalized for recreational use, so only those with a prescribed medical card were allowed to possess marijuana.
You do not have a medical card, so you’re put in jail for marijuana possession. However, recreational marijuana was legalized statewide in California in late 2016. So are you released from jail after marijuana becomes legalized? Believe it or not, no, you’d be still in jail today.
This is just one example of the judicial system’s mishandling of drug policy in America. And believe it or not, this type of mistreatment towards cannabis offenders disproportionately affects people of color. According to the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, or NORML, black people are about 3.6 times more likely to be incarcerated for a marijuana-related offense.
It’s Time to Change the Cannabis Industry
So why do we at CBD Choice care about the climate of the cannabis industry? Well, CBD products might not derive from marijuana. But hemp and marijuana are cousins within the cannabis plant family. Likewise, CBD Choice is a cousin to members of the marijuana industry.
What happens on one side of the industry affects the other. In our minds, it starts with a reckoning of current cannabis legislation. No one should be incarcerated for marijuana, hemp, or cannabis, especially because cannabis is now legal throughout the United States. Cannabis is not a crime.
We’re donating 10 percent of our proceeds during the month of September to the Last Prisoner Project because we believe that cannabis reform starts with freeing cannabis prisoners, those left personally victimized by the War on Drugs, lackluster politicians, and political standards.
