CBD Choice Goes Pink

CBD Choice Goes Pink

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time for standing with breast cancer survivors and spreading awareness of the disease. In the United States, about 1 in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. This month is their time to stand up and fight back, and CBD Choice wants to help.

Breast Cancer Awareness

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in the United States, excluding skin cancers. This disease accounts for about 1 in 3 of all cancer diagnoses and is the second leading cause of death among women in the U.S.

It’s estimated that 268,600 women will be diagnosed with the disease by the end of this year, and that 42,260 will die from it. These statistics are not meant to instill fear, but rather encourage embattlement. With increasing scientific research and advancements in medical technology and understanding, the average 5-year survival rate for those suffering from breast cancer has risen to 90%. The average 10-year survival rate is 83%.

Accounts from breast cancer survivors tell a harrowing story of fighting back, overcoming great personal turmoil to persevere in the face of adversity. Being diagnosed with breast cancer can be terrifying, and living with breast cancer is no easy feat. The common symptoms of breast cancer include:

  •     Lumps in breast or underarm
  •     Swelling of parts of the breast
  •     Skin irritation
  •     Redness or flaky skin
  •     Nipple discharge, including blood
  •     Pain in breast

Additionally, treating breast cancer can bring about a myriad of other symptoms. Common side effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy include:

  •     Nausea & vomiting
  •     Diarrhea
  •     Constipation
  •     Pain
  •     Arm swelling
  •     Shortness of breath
  •     Skin irritation

Those living with breast cancer also note that the disease can sometimes debilitate you, leaving you feeling weak, lethargic, and hopeless. It’s important for everyone – allies and survivors alike – to understand the symptoms of breast cancer in order to help those suffering this Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Breast Cancer & CBD

Research is still developing around the possibility of treating cancer-related symptoms with cannabidiol, otherwise known as CBD. However, according to the National Cancer Institute, a government-owned organization, CBD does have potential benefits for those living with cancer. CBD has been observed to affect nausea, appetite, pain, and sleep.

Because CBD has been shown to have few – if any – side effects depending on the user, it may be worth a shot for those suffering from breast cancer.
