What is a Lifter Strain?

The term "lifter strain" refers to just one cannabis strain, named "Lifter." This South Oregon-derived cannabis strain is unlike its THC-heavy counterparts. Instead of intoxicating side effects, Lifter offers a monumental concentration of cannabidiol, better known as CBD. As you may already know, CBD does NOT get you high and elicits various therapeutic benefits, such as fighting inflammation and relieving anxiety.
According to Leafly, the Lifter strain contains about 16% CBD and only 1% THC or less, on average. More popular consumer strains contain higher levels of THC and lower levels of CBD, nearly opposite Lifter and other CBD-dominant strains. This makes Lifter unique, in line with other famed CBD strains of cannabis like Charlotte's Web.
Bred by the conveniently named Oregon CBD, Lifter is also available in a Sour Lifter variety. Sour Lifter CBD hemp flower contains a cannabinoid concentration of 16% CBD and 1% THC, identical to the original Lifter strain. So how is Lifter different from Sour Lifter? The taste! Sour Lifter offers a sour taste (as you might have guessed), possessing a more pungent terpene profile. With both Lifter and Sour Lifter, users overwhelmingly report feeling uplifted, relaxed, and more focused. In addition, Lifter CBD products tend to help people deal with anxiety, stress, and physical ailments like pain and inflammation.
The Significance of Lifter CBD Products
We know Lifter offers a high-CBD, low-THC alternative to traditional cannabis strains, ideal for CBD users. But does that mean all Lifter CBD products derive from the same strain? Believe it or not, yes!
Cannabis strains are vital to the cannabis industry at large. They allow users to keep track of which products work best for them. Furthermore, a strain is generally defined by two very important pieces of information:
- The composition of the strain (how much CBD, THC, etc.)
- The physiological and mental effects of the strain (what does it help)
Lifter strains are (1) high in CBD and low in THC and (2) known to elicit uplifting, anxiolytic benefits, as we demonstrated earlier. All Lifter CBD products derive from the same strain, so users can trust they will get the same cannabinoid concentration and experience across various products and brands.
Different brands typically acquire their own Lifter seeds or clones, used to manufacture the final CBD products. This is common practice with many strains, not just Lifter and Sour Lifter. But Lifter is unique because CBD strains are hard to come by. Cannabis growers tend to profit more from marijuana (used to make THC products) than hemp (used to make CBD products). However, impassioned strain advocates say, Lifter is one of the better CBD strains out there, securing a Lifter strain fanbase across the CBD industry.
Oregon CBD: The Company Behind Lifter Strains
Oregon CBD was founded in 2015. They were the first federally legal cannabis research and development company to operate in compliance with the 2018 Farm Bill, the historic piece of legislation that legalized hemp and CBD products nationwide. And according to Oregon CBD's website, their commitment to innovation within the cannabis industry doesn't stop here:
"As we continue to increase seed production, our commitment to innovation grows stronger. For us, this means building out world-class genomics and chemistry capabilities and developing public/private research programs that will increase our collective understanding of cannabis agronomy in a transparent fashion. Most importantly, we are doing so without outside funding and no interest in ever selling out—it gives us the ability to 'do the right thing' regardless of financial implications. Stay tuned as we unveil the details and continue to push the cannabis revolution forward."
Oregon CBD credits this statement with a variety of achievements in the cannabis industry. The company developed the first-ever:
- High-CBD auto-flowering hemp plants in 2016
- Field trials of "early" flowering cannabis varieties in 2016
- Pure CBG cannabis line in North America in 2017
- Pure CBG auto-flowering variety in 2017
In short, Oregon CBD is the type of company you want at the forefront of the cannabis industry. They take a scientific approach to cannabis, focusing less on money-making in favor of medicinal research and product development for cannabis derivatives like CBD products.
