The Story of Charlotte's Web (Available at CBD Choice!)

We are thrilled to announce that Charlotte's Web CBD products are now available at CBD Choice! The brand is an industry leader, creating the original #CBDMOVEMENT, partially responsible for CBD's exuberant popularity today. But non-intoxicating cannabinoids like CBD weren't always the company's forte. In fact, the Charlotte's Web CBD story is one of horticultural experimentation, heartbreak, and (of course) marijuana.
Charlotte's Web is owned and operated by the Stanley brothers: Joel, Jesse, Jon, Jordan, Jared, and Josh. Believe it or not, those really are their names! The Stanley's are major players in Colorado's legal marijuana market. In 2013, the same year Charlotte's Web was featured on Dr. Sanjay Gupta's CNN Documentary WEED, they produced about 600 pounds of medical marijuana per year and operated dozens of cannabis dispensaries around the state.
Much of this medical marijuana was high in THC, dramatically different from Charlotte's Web's CBD hemp products, which contain no more than 0.3% THC by dry weight. However, it was during this time the Stanley's sharpened their horticultural skills.
On a remote farm in an undisclosed location, they bred new and unique strains of cannabis. Eventually, they stumbled upon what eldest brother Joel would call "Revolutionary": a cannabis strain high in CBD and incredibly low in THC. Some people thought they were crazy, that nobody would want a CBD-rich strain of cannabis flower. The Stanley's didn't even know what they were going to do with it, but they kept at it. They believed in the medicinal benefits of cannabis, validated by their experience with medical marijuana. So why not take a gamble on CBD-heavy strains of cannabis as well?
Charlotte Figi: The Birth of a #CBDMOVEMENT
We've written about Ms. Charlotte Figi in the past. However, she is fundamental to the development of the brand Charlotte's Web, named in her honor. You see, around the same time the Stanley's didn't know what to do with their CBD-rich cannabis, the Figi family was going through a nightmare.
Charlotte Figi, just six years old, experienced upwards of 300 seizures per week. She suffered from a rare and severe form of childhood epilepsy called Dravet syndrome. Her parents had tried every treatment option available.
In the words of Dr. Sanjay Gupta in his CNN documentary WEED, "The Figi's tried everything: strange diets, acupuncture, and dozens of powerful drugs like valium, ativan, pentobarbital. But nothing seems to help. Even worse, some of the medications nearly killed her."
Both Paige, Charlotte's mother, and Matt, Charlotte's father, had said goodbye several times. They had seen their little girl flat-line on the hospital bed. Paige even once lost Charlotte's pulse while administering chest compressions. There was seemingly nothing left they could do to save their little girl.
According to Dr. Gupta, "As a last resort, doctors wanted to either prescribe a powerful veterinary drug used on epileptic dogs or put Charlotte in a medically induced coma so her brain and body could rest. For Paige, those were not good options."
What would become their "good" option? Cannabis. And eventually, the Figi's found themselves on the Stanley's family cannabis farm. Remember that high-CBD, low-THC cannabis growing in a private greenhouse—the strain "nobody would want"? That strain was named Charlotte's Web (just like the brand) and is now used in all Charlotte's Web CBD products today!
After Charlotte Figi began taking an early version of Charlotte's Web CBD oil, her seizures reduced from 300 per week to just one. Yes, you read that right! CBD oil reduced Charlotte's seizures by upwards of 300 per week. As a result, her quality of life improved beyond her parents' greatest expectations. Charlotte began walking, talking, eating, riding bikes. She became a little girl again, all thanks to the healing powers of Charlotte's Web's special CBD oil.
CBD oil became Charlotte's livelihood, and the Stanley's knew: people needed access to this. So the Charlotte's Web brand came to be, bringing both Charlotte's story of courage and her life-saving treatment to the world.
The Beginning of Modern Cannabis
Cannabis in the United States possesses a long history, full of political battlefields that only convolute the importance of the plant's medical potential. Charlotte's Web, on the other hand, marks a turning point in the history of cannabis. The CBD oil formulation they crafted for Ms. Figi is considered the blueprint for CBD oil tinctures, some of the most popular CBD hemp products on the market today. You can try the very same CBD oil that aided Charlotte's condition for years, available now at CBD Choice.
As for Charlotte Figi, she lived mostly seizure-free for years, thanks primarily to the Stanley Brothers at Charlotte's Web. Charlotte unfortunately passed away in 2020 at the age of 13. However, her legacy lives on, present in the millions of CBD users nationwide, Charlotte's Web, and the CBD industry at large.
